Sliding on rocks isn't something I'd like to do. Sounds ouchy. I guess sitting on rocks is ok - it's not climbing.
Given how much nasty stuff the textile industry dumped into the river, you don't really want to get in it. You definitely don't want to disturb the riverbed.
You've got to get to the rocks somehow, and it's not a dedicated path.
