If you get into a dispute with a disreputable buyer ebay can reach into your account and refund the buyers money even if you never get the goods back.
So it’s like being a merchant with a Visa account, and having a dishonest customer do a chargeback. You’re out both the money and the product with no recourse.
It’s just another example of a long line of ebay policies over the past decade or so to discourage low volume sellers.
I started using ebay when it was still possible to pay for purchases with money orders. I doubt I’ll stop any time soon.
