Update -
Her phone did an update today, ironically, and after rebooting and attempting to pair right after the reboot it seems like it worked.
However, the display goes through periods of showing "connecting" (with the data fields hidden). I am not sure what to make of it just yet - the trip time didn't seem like it was off. The distance has not been calibrated, I just picked the stock tire size in the list that matched (exact match - but the label numbers dont necessarily pan out exact to the measured tire rotations over a given distance).
