Never ride without eye protection. In the 80's I managed to get a small insect in my eye and it ended up irritating me for several weeks before it healed up. I just use inexpensive S&W safety glasses but they work great for me. Most days I wear the sunglass model but also have a pair of non-tinted ones for days when it is heavily overcast.
