I do a morning track workout on coffee and very little anything else and the workout will consist of mostly anaerobic and neuromuscular efforts. However, there is not a lot of duration.
It's been years since I regularly anything before lunch time. Unless my workouts are over 3 hours I rarely take a bar unless I feel hungry. Lunch time is breakfast, which consists of a massive bowl of oats, fruit, and yogurt. For a race I'll eat a couple of bars, but not much more.
