We are staying in LA but I do want to try Mt Baldy, is there ANY risk of ice/snow at that time of year? My memory is not perfect, but I recall a couple visits ago in ?March there was snow/ice so I did Mt Wilson instead, and even Wilson had some slush on the way to the top.
With the unusual weather we've had this year, it's hard to speculate. The high point on the climb to Baldy Village is only 4400, or so, but there is sometimes ice in the shade near the top of Glendora Ridge Road. Best to check conditions closer to the time you want to go. If you decide to go beyond the village to the ski lifts (end of the road) it's 6000 feet up there, so more likely to get icy.
In a normal year I think ice is not likely in May. I'm sure I could get info from locals in May. People are going up there all the time.
