Bottom Bracket Archeology

I’m deep into restoring my Peugeot. I opened up the bottom bracket and was surprised at what I found.
1.Bearings were mounted on a plastic retainer ring. Never seen that on a bike of this vintage.

Retainer rings and seeds

Dissected sunflower seed

2. Several black seeds. On closer inspection, these turned out to be sunflower seeds. I guess an enterprising Squirrel or chipmunk deposited these in the top of the seatpost!
