I don't wear deck shoes when there's a chance of getting seriously wet. Leather moccasins are a very poor choice for those conditions. It's athletic-type boat shoes, which don't stretch when wet, stay on your feet, and dry quickly, Keen sandals with the closed toe, or boots. I also have a few pairs of breathable, waterproof, socks, which are pretty nice.
But Sebago says, they are "the perfect nautical footwear."
Confession: I had a pair of Docksides back in the 1980s. I did not always wear socks with them.
