I think the biggest difference all in is the stopping power of the hydro brakes. the calipers and pads from the downhill mtn bike side has so much more surface area on the rotor and the extra leverage that you gain using road levers and mtn calipers (the lever throw is about 2x my equivalent road lever/road caliper set up) is game changing.
