It's possible the bulk you see is fat much like the marbling of prime cuts of steak. And I don't think that type of fat is easy to get rid of. Or at least you don't have any real control of where your body loses fat.
Regardless of why, don't try to lose muscle. In my retired days of less work, I'm having a time trying to keep muscle.
If I flex my biceps, it gets fairly large and hard. It feels like pure muscle.
But I hope you're right about marbling. At least fat is lighter than muscle and something I can use in long rides. Absolutely no issues with arms right now. No hand numbness and rides can get up to 6 hours without stopping (except for very short pee break). So I'll take your word for it that it's a good thing!
