While I don't use Strava, I know a couple of people I ride with that do. I asked them about this, and one was like meh, whatever, the other was not upset with the cost increase so much as his issue was how they tried to just sneak it by people. He said he is going to keep his account, but thought the way the went about it was pretty slimy.
