I find that Forums are often a great tool for dealing with issues. Car forums, in particular, are great for that. I recently bought a new car and wanted to install a tow hitch. I went on the forum for that vehicle and learned the differences - in layman's terms - between the OEM and aftermarket options, and tricks to the install. I found where to get the best price on and OEM hitch as well as a trick to massively simplify the install. Took me less than 30 min. total.

I use this forum a bit differently, since most of us here are very experienced, and we contribute enough that it's possible to get a sense of people's personalities, which makes it fun to banter.
