I would think anyone reaching adolescence before Y2K or so would have a good chance of understanding the reference, no? I mean, I'm 44 and I'd read some when stumbling along a stash of mags in my teenage/pre-internet years. I couldn't remember the proper name for the section, but I knew that I could count on an old guy like
