Bivy (Borah) and tarp (Zpacks) not only save weight save space. When I bikepack this is an important feature. I have a Nemo ultralight tent that I often use as well. The bigger tent goes canoe camping and bike touring when I carry panniers. The tarp/bivy goes with me when I gp backpacking and bikepacking.

There is a time and place for bivy or tent. I don't have issue with bugs very often at night when I sleep.
Another benefit of bivy, Southwest night skies when you wake up in the middle of the night. The SW I don't even use the tarp. Tent or bug bivy, mandatory in the Daks when paddling
