my riding has been cut way back but when i was doing a steady 500 miles a month, for a couple years, i had three pairs of shorts (the rapha ones with mesh pockets), 4-5 short sleeve technical shirts, 4-5 long sleeve, an one lightweight jacket. rotate the shirts, wash in a batch every three weeks or so, wash the shorts by hand in the sink after each ride and hang to dry. there would always be a clean dry pair. no items showed any meaningful wear after 10,000 + miles on the system, so even at $100/shorts and $50/shirt the life cycle cost of the system was trending towards perhaps twenty cents a day.
