Fair point; I may not get my money's worth out of some spares, either. Story of many of my hobbies, really.

I think it's largely a judgment call. If you don't think you'll need a specific part for a specific bike within a year, it can probably wait. It's nice having some things on hand, so I don't have to wait if a tire gets cut or a brake pad announces its end with a new screech, though.
