I might have left a quarter of my "bathroom deposit." But then, I am a BF nit-picker (I don't actually pick nits, that is a figure of speech.)
As for karma .... it gets us all. Being good to others makes sense for a lot of reasons, but avoiding disaster is a good one by itself.
