Local REI Mechanic was happy to find an early 90's Rockhopper for $250 clean. And he is in his 50's, not some kid.

The difference is the west versus the east. Urban environments are just not anywhere near as open in the east.

And then you have no cold weather (At least what most people would think is cold) so there are just a flood of bikes in that market vs the east.

I bought this for a flip but it road so nice, and I liked the way it looked I decided to keep it. (I was going to throw it on CL for $120 and keep top posting like I always do) I hadn't seen a quality hybrid in steel in forever on the fly.

Wow, that does sound like a different reality out there. People do list old steel here for 200+, but doesn't seem like they sell. A nice clean Trek 830 might sell for $100 and a 950 for 150.
