Kudos, but I'm still confused. Does the cable go around the outside of the BB shell with no guides? I've seen that done with steel frames, but there's still usually a groove cast in to the BB shell.
The lightest front shifting I've ever experienced is with the Dura-Ace 7900 levers on my Trek. There's a spring inside the lever that offsets most of the FD return spring tension, and it feels like there's nothing connected to the shifter at all. I'm still getting used to it, even after 200 miles. It always feels like I'm going to throw the chain off the outside of the big ring.
