I've been touring on a Carbon Cervelo RS with an endurance type geometry for a few years now and it's only drawback is the tire clearance, but it was great on the gravel of the Erie Canal and I only had two punctures on the entire Northern Tier. I run 34/36 as my lowest gear and find that with a fairly light load I don't need anything lower.
