They have smooth rubber soles and are walkable, so not quite as stiff as a road shoe. I think most of them have been discontinued and replaced with more tennis looking shoes for platform pedals.

The shoes I’m using are Specialized Elite Touring shoes. I found them on eBay. I can’t say they are the best, but they are the same shape as a road shoe so they slide in and out of the clips easily. They use Velcro straps not laces.

I found a PUMA shoe which looked like a bike shoe with a hard sole and had a velcro strap as well but they are no longer available in retail sales.
