My wife is an avid bridge player. After she retired, she went to our local park district senior citizen bridge club just to check it out. She was barely legal age to participate. Anyway, after going maybe twice, she missed a week and when she returned the following week, they said they had the annual meeting and she was elected president of the Senior Citizen Club. That was in 2006 and she's still president despite having moved out of the district.
Moral of the story: Don't miss election meetings.
