First Bike In Over Forty Years
Yep, it's been a while since that Raleigh 10 speed back in 1978. I got my license to drive and never got on one again. That is until just recently when I started walking the neighborhood to get some exercise. "Walking sucks!" I thought. "I need a bike!" But not just any ol' Chinese plastic thing in a box from Walmart. I needed an old bike with lots of chrome and polished aluminum. My local Craig's list had lots of Walmart bikes but not much else. Then I saw it. A 1971 Italvega Nuovo Record reasonably priced! SCORE. Now I'm learning all about Campagnolo this and Stronglight that and having a lot of fun riding it too. That bike will really haul the mail. I can't believe how much ground I can cover in an hour. I live in downtown Austin where there are hike and bike trails everywhere and bike lanes on many of the streets. It's like discovering a whole different world I didn't even know about.
