I ended up installing a replacement internal hub, but within a few months I broke a tooth on the 4th speed planetary gear, the RK-8 is really delicate, you can't treat it rough at all... I cannibalized the original internals and rebuilt the hub. The bike is great for cruising, but I avoid anything rough, and no steep inclines etc... This website helped with the rebuild:

I bought my Pugsley as a replacement, I'm kinda done with IGH bikes for now.
