Xt/XTR are mountain pull and 105 is road pull. What you need is a Wolftooth TanPan or a Jtek Shiftmate to translate the pull ratio between the two.
I ride this bike since Jan 2006 with road shifters and a rear XTR and it works well.
in the new components, this is not going to work, that is known. This is why I am trying to learn how to do it right
