Ah, if you actively use a phone while riding then yeah a quadlock is better.
You may find that a GPS device is then even more convenient than a phone mounted atop a quadlock since its smaller and has a longer lasting battery.

To each their own though as there is no wrong way here- its all just a matter of using what works best for your style of riding.
