A special tool is needed to attach the spider to the cranks, but I'd be surprised if it came without already being installed. I bought mine as separate line items and didn't add the assembly fee, but they still put it together for me. You shouldn't need more than a set of Allen wrenches for the chainrings and left arm.
They want 29 bucks to put
something together and the tool is 60. I emailed them for more info. I would hate to order it unassembled and then have to wait for a stupid tool.
