I first noticed this in corporate correspondence. I think it originated because somebody didn't know the correct usage of affect and effect. Also, impact sounds more active.
Corporate talk is unbelievable. I just cannot relate to people using words and phrases like nugget, gem, deep dive, synergy/synergize, empower, content, game changer, bandwidth, etc. and the worst of all - win-win.
