Wet lube is oil and usualy will attract more grit to the chain.
If you are in a dry area, then dry lube, which is wax based can be used, and will stay cleaner then wet lube.
You need to apply dry lube when the chain is totally clean.
I live in Israel, and it is mostly dry, but I use finish line green wet lube. It works for me.
Oh, and I didn't try dry lube ;-)
