Just for comparison, I've had my GIOS bike 10-12 years. Here's what went into it. I built up my Compact Pro with a frame from Excel Sports for $900.00. Alloy Chorus 10 speed except for centaur shifters GIOS chrome fork $ ???.??. Chorus pedals, and headset, GIOS Sele Italia saddle, Mavic open pro Record wheels, conti 4000s tires, ritchey stem and handlebars. Chain Wippermann. I either had some parts, or bought them from Excel or eBay. It cost maybe $2500.00 to build. Just a guess. It's not an antique by my reckoning. I don't think I could get $1500.00 for it, but I wouldn't sell it. It's my favorite bike. Howsteepisit is right. and don't forget, there are plenty of these around even if GIOS does not sell in the US market these days. I'd keep looking.
