Took me a few days to figure it out, but I think I've been a bit sick the last week or so. Explains a lot. Felt better today.

Elbows have a bit more bend to them and it feels like I'm supporting the position with my upper back instead of my triceps which probably means I'm in the sweet spot as far as cockpit position goes.

Heh. Funny story. I slammed my bars about 3 months ago. Only 5mm or so, and I swapped out to compact bars with shallower drop. I had been really hating the sensation of going from drops to hoods in a race, it felt like I was throwing out a parachute. Now I'm lower on the hoods, able to get just as low on the drops if need be, and happier overall.
