Have you thought of hiring a small van from Hertz and dropping it off in Southampton? Do the reverse when you return, assuming you are returning.
we managed to get our Trek T2000 into their smallest van after removing both wheels inverting it and putting it in diagonally. If you are only going away for a short time, arrange with a hotel to leave the van there until you return.
