I assume it's how you define a "better" cassette. The more expensive ones (Shimano Dura Ace, SRAM Red) are the lightest cassettes, if weight is important. Otherwise the lower priced cassettes should work fine. Personally, I would stay with Shimano or SRAM. There are other brands available too, but I have no experience with those. A quick search at Amazon shows brands like Bibike and Bolany.

I've used both SRAM and Shimano cassettes with Shimano, KMC and SRAM chains, and all work well together.
