I'll use whatever suits me because whilst bike lanes can be safer they are often strewn with glass or simply don't go exactly where I want to go. I've only had one motorist blast his horn at me for not using the bike path that was parallel to the main road but the road was almost empty at 8am on a Sunday morning. I was hoping to catch up with him for a chat but he got through the lights just before they changed to red.
