However ... I believe the op's premise is inherently flawed. The Stingrays were 'heavy' bikes, were they not? If so, then a whole generation of American kids
were should have been getting workouts superior to those of their Euro counterparts. Therefore, the Stingrays cannot be blamed. If there was a conspiracy, the Euros would have had American kids on the lightest possible 'racing bikes' during their formative years, in order to sabotage their ability to be competitive in European pro cycling.
