At least in 2002 the format was

XXmmyynnnn

where XX = model, mm = month of manufacture, yy = year of manufacture and nnnn = the frame number. Mine is VX01020695, which presumably is a v-rex from Jan 2002 . Would they really have produced 695 frames in one month?
