Out riding on the MUP today, nice and sunny, warm and feeling real good since temps have allowed me to ride more often. While passing by an oncoming mother and child I can see the eyes of the child get that wide excited look and then he points and yells "look Mom, a skateboarder"!
I'm crestfallen, I'd already passed that skateboarder twice and never during the minute or so that they were in my view did they get on the skateboard. They were just carrying it around. They weren't even dressed in more typical skateboarder attire. While I was decked out in my best kit and had even just cleaned my bike!
Oh well.
My best kid encounter story was when I was pedaling very slowly behind a kid and mother on a greenway, and politely announced I was going to pass. The kid was about 3 and said " mom, we have to watch out for the crazy bicyclist!" Mom looked absolutely mortified and said looking at me "they're not all crazy" and seemed to be relieved that I saw the humor in the situation.
