I have them on several of my bikes. I really like them so far. Very comfy.
Today I went over to another city (The Hague) to pick up a second-hand Garmin Edge 1040 Solar! I say second-hand but really the guy sold his bike before even using it so I just got a pretty decent discount on a fancy bike computer.
For the price of a regular (
non-solar)
Garmin Edge 840 I got the
high-end 1040 Solar. And since I was planning on getting the 840 next month anyway... well, a deal is a deal.
I plan on using it for a 3-week tour this summer. The built-in solar panel is a bit gimmicky but under the right (
sunny) conditions it can add a couple of hours to the battery life of the unit.
If
reviews are to be believed it can be used for several days without charging under less high-precision GPS settings in a bikepacking setting for example.
But also, new handlebars!
