Not to be argumentative, but your original figure was $1000, and I think that 105 is a much more reasonable expectation at $1500 (right now, that might be a little low, but right now is inflated).

Also, keep in mind that 2021 Tiagra is a fair amount better than 2010 Tiagra. Shimano has kept pace on the upgrades such that a 2021 Tiagra is probably more comparable to a 2010 105 than a 2010 Tiagra while a today 105 is probably more comparable to a 2010 Ultegra.

By the way, besides the trick of buying last year's model, I suspect you were spot on about the number of LBS in San Diego providing you with the better deals. One of the things you may have missed in the last 5 years is the number of LBS that are now closed or bought out by Trek.
