Despite what you hear about Texas, Oklahoma, etc., the big cities are not really any different than anywhere else. You might run into issues with isolated individuals and in small towns, but that's about it. Same with politics for the most part - there is a difference between rural and urban areas just like in Pennsylvania and other states.
I reckon you are right. I observed the same dynamic in Asheville NC and even in Metro Philly vs. Central PA.
