One of my mechanic friends had his Golf seize up at highway speeds, after rapid oil loss. Of course, it was one of the coldest days of the year.
He's a good mechanic and takes care of his vehicles, but likes to upgrade things. Apparently, a fitting broke.
Naturally, I still roast him about this incident.
My younger brother bought a brand new Subaru when he graduated from college or started medical school or something and simply ignored the oil. It went over 50k before it seized on 95 somewhere in Connecticut. That was in the 80s. Today, with a load of synthetic, it guess it would go 100 or more.
