How can you say it is meaningless? If it means something to the person doing it, it has meaning. It only has meaning in a race? Does it have to be a world tour race? Does a local race count? How about a structured training race? What if two guys just race each other for the county line?

Going fast can be fun. Competing with friends can be fun. Comparing results and bench racing are fun. Lots of people train and work on their speed for fun.
