I've used cycling gloves, batting gloves, receiver gloves, and motorcycle gloves. The motorcycle gloves are by far my favourite, followed by receiver gloves. Batting gloves are too thin, in the case of a crash (my opinion), and most cycling gloves actually suck for track racing.

These are the motorcycle gloves I used, the ICON Pursuit perforated.

The leather is thicker than batting or golf gloves, they breathe amazingly well, and they have soft armour over the knuckles. The fit is awesome, better than any full finger glove I have ever worn. 1 pair lasted me 4 seasons of riding, including on the road, and I still have them (10+ years later). Had I not stopped riding/racing, I still don't think I would've worn them out, they're that durable.

Receiver gloves were best for anything standing start related. Best grip on the bars you can get out of a pair of gloves. Second is hockey tape, because the glue seeps through the cloth and tacks up nicely.
