Makes sense to give obstacles and potential hazards a wide berth.

Of course an alternative is for a self described do-gooder to stop and lecture drivers about the errors of their ways. Maybe even call 911 and report them as well as children and dogs who might run out in front of an all important bicyclist, or cause him to have to alter his speed or course as a precaution when riding amongst others in the city (oh the horror!)
