It's certainly true that gloves get funky, in the summer after even one ride. That isn't very pleasant when you go to wipe your nose, or even your brow or other parts of your face. While odor-causing bacteria (plus mold? other?) don't seem to do much harm, if you can smell those bacteria who knows what else you're introducing to your mucous membranes? I'm hardly a germ-a-phobe, but even a casual concern for basic hygiene would cause one to wash anything that smells too bad.

During the summer, I rinse my gloves with water after a ride, let dry in the utility room, wash every 2-3 rides. During the winter, it's usually not that much of an issue. Wash when they get a little smelly (so, maybe after every 2-3 rides).
