i truly don’t understand. these are private companies offering a service. at this point (2021) they make it fairly clear what data they want, what they’re going to do with it (SELL IT) and your range of options to not have your data harvested.

i’d feel differently if facebook, strava, instagram, youtube, etc were basic necessities like food or shelter or paying taxes and the only way to live was by being surveilled.

i’m also guessing a fair number of those complaining are also against paying for these services, leaving the only way for them to be viable businesses advertising and data collection.
