"Around here its a wretched situation - there's never really any good deals to be had. Everything is either big-box department store junk, with the very occasional newer bike for 1000+, and as a result anyone who has what could be regarded as a C&V bike probably takes a glance at the ads and decides "well if they can ask $100 for a kids bike and those fancy thingamajigs can bring $1000, then I'll ask $250 and see what happens"

Around NYC you are seeing AMF, Sears, Kia, and other really low-end bikes with junk frames with asking prices in the $200 range. As you get into the suburbs you start seeing the $100 Peugeots, Raleighs and Miyatas. Some of these junk bike buyers should just head over to K-mart or Walmart and pick up something new. Even though some of the newer bikes aren't that stylish, the old junk bikes don't look that great either. Guess $200 isn't alot of money these days...at least judging by what you can get for it on CL.
