U-locks tucked into rear frames have worked well for me. They can rattle when I hit a bump, but I find I seldom notice it. If the lock is positioned wrong in the rack, the shackle can play a merry little tune on the spokes of the rear wheel, but that's the sort of mistake one doesn't tend to repeat.
