I've always worn some sort of eyeglasses and often where sunglasses over them. I was once riding at speed over a bridge in Toronto Canada when my left sunglass lens was struck hard by some large bug. the impact was so great that it broke the lens. I dread to think what would have happened if that had hit an unprotected eye.
I think that eye protection whilst riding a bicycle is a good idea.
