Even assuming the machine is on a steeper slope, the weight being pressed is less than 600 lbs, which is not that extraordinary for the leg press. When I do 3 x 10 leg presses, I use 420 lbs, and I'm about 100 lbs lighter than Carleton. I'm not saying there is anything substandard about Carleton's workout, just that moving a lot of weight with the strongest muscles in your body looks impressive, but is not the reason why a track sprinter is successful in competition.

The press is 45 degrees. Multiply the weight by 0.71 to get the amount you are lifting if it were a vertical press or squat.
